The Mouse and the Mask, the long-awaited joint-venture of Danger Mouse and MF Doom is “Number one in the hood, G!” The album is centered around cartoons, specifically tandems with Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, bringing in characters from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast for cameos and skits throughout the record. Musically, it is a brilliant combination of ’70s funk and modern hip/hop. Lyrically, Doom’s flow is flawless. While not to serious, and slightly goofy, the album is catchy and will keep your head nodding.
Common comes full circle with his 6th release, Be. After receiving a disappointing reaction to Electric Circus, he returns to his roots with introspective story telling tracks. Produced by Kanye West and featuring sweet beats and smooth sounds, Be could be the best rap album of 2005.
