To Apple: iPhone Feedback
After 3 months with my iPhone, I felt it was time to give Apple my feedback. I sent the following through their iPhone Feedback System:
First, I love the iPhone and it’s capabilities. But, I have a few issues.
- Native Chat Program. Why is this application not on the phone. You are constantly connected to the web via Edge or Wi-fi. This seems like a no-brainer. Yes, I can go through a 3rd party website (meebo), but for security and ease of use this should be native to the device.
- 3rd Party Apps. Please don’t feel threatened by these. This will only enhance my iPhone experience. You are running a version of OSX on the device and people have already “hacked” their way into installing apps. You should be encouraging this. Bottom line, if this is to be considered a “Smartphone” and you wish to compete in that market, this is a necessity. Windows and Palm based phones already allow this. What is the holdout?
- MMS. Even the most basic camera phones have this ability to some degree. Again, why would this not be included in such a “revolutionary” phone?
- Multiple Calendar syncing. I can not sync multiple/selected calendars in Outlook 2007, despite the appearance of the option in iTunes.
- Flash. 95% market saturation on computers and this excluded from the first “true” web browser on a phone? This has discouraged several people I know from pulling the trigger on purchasing the iPhone. Personally, it is baffling…
- Safari Tweaking. Including addons/plugins would be nice and it would be nice to have little more control of the browsing experience (ie. Firefox).
- Ringtones. I understand Apple wants to make money, but why can we not put our own ringtones on the devise without going through iTunes. This feature exists in a majority of phones with custom ringtones. It is often just a drag-and-drop process. Is the extra money really worth the hassle to your other customers?
I could go on, but these are the most important to me. Let me reiterate, I love the iPhone and it’s current functionality. Most of my problems are with features that should have been included initially in a smart/media phone. All of these can be resolved with software/firmware updates. I encourage you to do so and this will truly be the best phone on the market.
Albert
Nicely put, my friend! I understand fighting the unlocks, but I can’t imagine why Apple would prevent the 3rd-party apps. If anything, it makes the iPhone more appealing!
P.S. Nice job on the blog! You may have inspired me to put up my own blog. I’ll let you know if/when I do…
I fully agree with Allen. The original spirit of Apple was to encourage 3rd party expansion (anyone remember the Apple II?). That is what made them a success back then. Apple, please remember lessons from the past and benefit us AND yourselves.
“” IPHONE!!!!!
full ov shit. got impressed by looking at friends one. Than decided to buy one even though he forbidden me not to do so. If listened to him I wouldn’t have write here about my experiences. Now lets go through it..
at the first week of my IPHONE when I connected the iphone with the computer it showed a msg saying there is an update available, if i wanna go for it. I been told that updates are always good. But with the iphone?…without any alart, it deleted all my data, picturs, msgs, important documents, contacts everything..everything! How dare it is!!!!!
* you can’t save any text msg with the iphone. All you can do is keep it like continus conversation. You can’t even forward, save or seperate any specific text msg
* The BEST (!) thing about it is still you cant send mms whereas most of the camera phone has got that funcion nowadays…so shame on APPLE!!
* Its very poor functioned compare to the windows mobile devices
* People just get wondered when they notice that you can’t capture videos with this shitty phone!
* By having this phone you will face so many unknown problems that you only can restore the device to resolve them. And on that cases you know by now that whats gonna happen.
* this are only few of them major problems with that so called amaging phone. You have be the practical to experience on your own. Just get it with so much of pride and after few days waist your time by writting so many deferent bad experiences with your OWN IPHONE!!!!!!”"”"
I bought a new IPhone for US$599. During the 14 months I have owned an Iphone I have had two hardware failures and two “this phone needs repair” which is obvious because the only call the IPhone can make is to 911! It is a piece of crap and no one should ever buy one! Apple sold too many phones and the chinese who made them completely screwed them up! Apple does not stand behind their warranty and you are shit of luck when the warranty runs out. DO NOT EVERY BUY AN IPHONE..IT IS POOR TECHNOLOGY AND DOES NOT LAST!
i’m buying an iphone.
I believe Apple is going too far in how they are trying to control the sale of the iPhone. To keep a long story short, I switched from my existing provider in Singapore to Singtel in January 2009, lost the iphone(16 GB) two weeks later and Singtel offers me a replacement for US$1000 bucks and I tell them they are insane and practicing predatory pricing. Shame on Apple to allow this.
You can buy an unlocked iPhone in Hong Kong for US$800 from an Apple shop. Optus in Australia sells it with a pre-paid line for US$600 US$80 prepaid card top up.
Today I was reading about Apples International Warranty on the iPhone and guess what I see
. Can I get my iPhone serviced outside the country of purchase?
No, service for eligible repairs is only available in the country where your iPhone was purchased.
I cannot remember the last time I bought a laptop or phone that did not have a truly international warranty where it can be repaired anywhere. Apple really SHAME on you for setting the telecommunications industry back so many years. What has a product warranty got to do with the carrier.
I have a operational line with Singtel, I bought the iPhone in another country but it is unlocked by the carrier also according to policy, now I suspect if anything goes wrong Apple and Singtel will try to screw me over again. By the way am not an Apple Basher, I have gone through two iMacs, this is written on a Macbook Pro and I “used to be” to be telling everyone I know that they should buy an iPhone. After what I have discovered over the last 4 weeks, I tell my friend to run for their lifes and not to touch an iPhone with a ten foot pole unless Apple changes it policies. I guess the two iPods I was planning to buy for my kids will have to wait, just on a matter of principle.
I have been loyal to the Apple Brand for over 20 years and it looks like Apple is starting to repeat its mistakes of the past and getting way to arrogant in how it treats its customers. By the way e-mails to Apple received no acknowledgement, so I guess my a customers opinion doesn’t matter anymore.
I also have been completely ripped off by Apple . What a pathetic excuse for a phone , what year are we living in ? ive returned to my Nokia at least that bloody works .
The Apple rumor mill is once again running overtime on the topic of netbooks. If you believe the reports, Steve Jobs is himself leading the charge. My take: Whatever Apple does, it won’t be a netbook in the usual sense, I also bet that Apple, if it does anything, will itself avoid using the n-word to describe it.
